On 10/22/09, Microsoft released their latest operating system, Windows 7. It has been receiving great press, and after using it in house for a few months, I am excited to say it is perfect. The performance and ease of use is greatly improved.
I built a new PC for a client last week, and delivered it with Windows 7. The customer had an 8 year old computer with XP Home. I transferred their data from the old hard drive to the new pc quickly, and loaded some older applications that they required for business. I was able to load these older apps in "XP Mode" a new function that virtualizes the process so you can still run your old apps with the new ones. Everything went so smooth and quick, something Vista always had trouble doing...
Microsoft has an online tool you can run on your pc to check for compatibility with Windows 7. Here's the link: Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor
Those of you with Windows Vista can upgrade simply by purchasing the new software and loading the disc. If you have XP, a clean install will be required, contact me for details.
